Brazilian symphonic progressive rock band, formed in 1979 in Minas Gerais, Brazil.
The group led by multi-instrumentist and composer Marcus Viana developed a unique sonic signature that fuses European symphonic rock with classical music, MPB (Música Popular Brasileira), and Native American tribal rhythms. Their compositions carry a profound conceptual identity driven by spiritual themes and environmental activism.
The band's story began in 1979, shortly after the dissolution of Saecula Saeculorum — a pioneering progressive rock group from Minas Gerais that included Marcus Viana, a classically trained violinist, pianist, and arranger, that envisioned Sagrado Coração da Terra as a vehicle for a grand, collaborative vocal and instrumental fusion.
During its first few years, the project operated strictly as a musical laboratory, meticulously shaping its complex identity before entering the studio for any official recordings.
The music of Sagrado Coração da Terra and Viana's orchestral arrangements served as the themes and backdrops for major telenovelas and miniseries on Rede Manchete and Rede Globo, including 1711039, 1561731, 1181353, 1216948, and Chiquinha Gonzaga.
