Maxophone from Milan, Italy, was formed in 1973 as a six-piece. They had an unusual assortment of instruments, partly due to their past experience as music students. A band of great talents and musicianship, their selftitled, first album was released in 1975. However it arrived too late to compete with the most important Italian bands of the genre at the time, and went sadly unnoticed. The album was released on the Produttori Associati label, along with Duello Madre, as one of the few ventures in rock by this label, but they didn't reach the success they'd deserve with a better production and a good label promotion. An English-sung version was also released to launch the group abroad, but this was an unsuccessful choice and the original version is usually considered the better one. The band disbanded after a final single in 1977. Thirty years later, in the midst of the newfound interest in 1970s, Italian prog rock, Maxophone reformed with three original members, and released the first of several albums. Before that, sax and flute player Leonardo Schiavone had a short collaboration with Stormy Six at the end of the 70s.
