Notes

This is a third-try New York RCA Studios recording; cover art is from failed live recording efforts in Trinidad and New York. Jacket reverse, Lower Right : "Part proceeds from this record in aid of the Trinity Building Fund 6A Charlotte Street, Port-Of-Spain." Label typos : Grieg is misspelled Greig ; Prieto is misspelled Pietro Atwell is a classically trained pianist, born in Trinidad but living in the UK. Pan Am Jet North Stars was North Stars until 1962, when Pan Am airlines started sponsoring the band; they became the North Stars again in 1970, when Pan Am moved sponsorship to another steel band. To play alongside Atwell's piano required creating all new 36-note steel drums to match piano harmonics. This is the third attempt to record the album. It was first recorded (in mono) at an outdoors performance space in Trinidad; RCA scrapped that version (a bootleg exists). RCA then transported everyone to New York and recorded in Madison Square Garden; that performance was also scrapped, but is the source of the cover art. Then everyone went into RCA Studios in New York, and recorded this release.
