European label founded in Brussels, Belgium, by Michel Duval & Annik Honoré with the famous illustrator Benoît Hennebert. Les Disques Du Crepuscule's official birth dates back to August 1980 when A Certain Ratio's Shack Up 7" was released, carrying a double label identity: Factory Benelux / Les Disques Du Crepuscule. The label issued close to 400 titles on vinyl, cassette and CD, and also tried its luck in book publishing, video production and fashion. The musical variety is ranging from pop to jazz and from classical to experimental music. The presentation of the artists and special graphic design of the releases have made Crépuscule a special name among the independent record labels that were founded in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Crépuscule maintained close links with Factory in Manchester, but also operated (often shortlived) subsidiary labels in the UK (Operation Twilight and Operation Afterglow), the US (Crepuscule America), France (Crépuscule Section Française) and Japan (Crépuscule au Japon). 1984 even saw the opening of Interferences, a 'brasserie cosmopolite' cum performance space in the Rue de la Tete d'Or, just off the Grand Place in Brussels. In the 2000s the label briefly relocated to Paris, concentrating on soundtracks and the French domestic market. Michel Duval continued to run Crépuscule in various forms and locations until 2006. 2013 sees the return of Les Disques du Crépuscule, now curated by James Nice and operating out of the UK. Former Label Code: LC 7565 A note on vinyl 12" and LP releases and how to identify a first edition or a reissue: Crepuscule had their records pressed by Harry's until late 1984. Still in 1984, they started to use EMI Services Benelux B.V. until 1987. Between 1988 and end of 1989, records were pressed by Druco Music. Between 1990 and 1991, records were pressed by CBS in Haarlem. A note on CD issues and how to identify a first edition or a reissue: Crepuscule have had their CDs manufactured by Dureco, between January 1988 and November 1989, after which they used DADC in Austria for about 10 years. Dureco editions never carry a barcode. Dureco was also the distributor between 1988 and 1989, after which they switched to PIAS. Name variations as found on this profile: - Les Disques Du Crépuscule - Les Disques Du Crepuscule - Crépuscule aka Crepuscule.
