German entertainment club system, where members could buy books and records at a special price. Sometimes the editions had an own prints on it, sometimes a sticker on the common retail version. Initial known as Deutscher Bücherbund. 1949 founded as Deutscher Bücherbund from Holtzbrinck Verlag, Stuttgart. 1989 sold to Leo Kirch, in the 80s the club had changed the name to Bücherbund only. 1991 Kirch sold 24,9% to Bertelsmann Club, and finally 1992 it belonged 100% to Bertelsmann. 2015 Bertelsmann closed all its book clubs.
