International usion band based in Munich, Germany formed in 1970 as "Between All Chairs (B.A.C.H.), featuring avant-garde tendencies within a music that blended the medieval, the ancient and the futuristic.
The two students of composition in Munich, Peter Michael Hamel and Ulrich Stranz were part of the artist scene in Munich-Haidhausen. In the local club "Song Parnass" they jammed with various multinational artists. Amongst those, they met Robert Eliscu and Roberto Détrée in 1967, who both were from different fields of music. After jamming together in this atmosphere, they decided to form a band in 1970. The band's name was set to "Between All Chairs" in order to express their music between the rigid categories of music those days.
Together with two other musicians, they recorded their first album in 1971. On their second album in 1973, Indian influences were added to their music. On their following albums, their aim to put new influences into their sound led e.g. to the performance of a Pop symphony and to a score for poems. In 1980, Between recorded their last album, after which the group disbanded.
