An a cappella gospel group formed around 1980 on the campus of Oakwood College, (an HBCU in Huntsville, Alabama) as "A Special Blend". At the time the group was comprised of students Claude McKnight, Mark Kibble, Mervyn Warren, Lori Bryant, and Joya Foster. As members graduated, the personnel changed. By 1987 they signed with Reunion Records and renamed the group Take 6 with new members Alvin Chea, Cedric Carl Dent, Jr., and David Thomas. In 1989 they signed with Reprise Records. In 1990 Warren left the group and was replaced by Mark's brother Joey Kibble. Khristian Dentley joined later. The group has always enjoyed a crossover audience and integrates jazz, gospel and R&B. Members of the Gospel Music Hall of Fame, they have won 10 Grammy Awards, making them one of the most awarded vocal groups, with wins spanning jazz, gospel, and contemporary categories from their debut in the late 1980s through the 2000s, alongside numerous Dove Awards and other accolades.
