Aslak from Frederiksberg and Theodor from Odense formed the band after attending Ollerup Efterskole from 2015 to 2016. In September 2017, the group released the debut EP Drengepop, which followed up on three unofficial mixtapes released on Soundcloud during 2016. In 2018, they released the EP Sommerkys, and in 2019 they released the albums Legebørn and Hjertebank.
In 2017, Barcelona played on the Rising stage at Roskilde Festival, and in 2019 they returned to perform on the Avalon stage. They have also performed at Heartland Festival, Smuk Festival and SPOT Festival.
