German Hard- and Krautrock band from Augsburg, active under this name from 1972 to 1974.
In 1968, Rainer Baur and Helmut Treichel founded the band "A Deeper Blue". The year after, they both founded another band called "Phallus Dei". The band members hired a house in Friedberg near Augsburg, where they lived and rehearsed. They recorded the songs for their first album in 1971 at the Union Studios, Munich. When they received a record contract from TELDEC in 1972, the band was renamed to Gift (5). The name change was done, in order to have a name with a meaning as well in Germany, as well in English speaking countries.
The debut album was released in 1972. The band underwent several changes in lineup and recorded a second album in 1973, which was released n 1974. The band also was touring in Europe and had several appearances in German TV shows.
Unfortunately, all of their activities didn't yield enough money to be able to continue their work without additional jobs. In consequence, the band split in late 1974.
In 2013, parts of the band had an appearance in a German casting show. This appearance was not successful, as well as a planned reunion of the band in 2015.
