John Lewis Presents Contemporary Music - Jazz Abstractions. Compositions by Gunter Schuller & Jim Hall Recorded in New York, Dec. 19 & 20, 1960. FULL dynamics frequency SPECTRUM Atlantic record center label green and blue, with black fan in a white box (Atlantic label logo). The part "aB" of the matrix/runout on both sides of the record is a hand-engraved symbol of mastering engineer Al Brown(5), see image no. 7. This music belongs to the short development phase of "Third Stream Music" (around 1960), initiated by Gunther Schuller at Brandeis University in 1957. John Lewis writes in his liner notes "This recording is the first of a series making available contributions in that area of contemporary music ..." This album is dedicated to the memory of Scott LaFaro.
