176.4 kHz High Sampling Digital Recording Recorded At – St. Georges Church, Hermance, Switzerland (February, 2004) Phonographic Copyright (p) – M*A Recording Copyright (c) – M*A Recording Made By – Todd Garfinkle Musical Director - Rogerio Gonçalves Location Coordination - Leonardo Garcia Alarcon This CD contains three suites for viola da gamba belonging to the corpus of the Pièces de viole by the famous composer - as well as virtuoso of viola da gamba - Marin Marais, one of the greatest exponents of the French Baroque, who composed six books of viola suites. The most famous of all is the Suite in E minor of the Second Book (1701), which contains the famous Tombeau pour Mr de Sainte Colombe, a piece made famous all over the world by the film Tous les matins du monde, which told the story of Marais and his teacher Mr de Sainte Colombe with the participation of the most acclaimed violist in the world, the Catalan Jordi Savall. Andrea De Carlo (who had already taken part in the recording of Buenos Aires Madrigal, MA063), plays these pieces with a strongly Italian approach. This record was recorded in a small Swiss church with almost perfect acoustics (you can admire the vault on the CD cover) and we can safely say that this is the first truly audiophile recording of this famous piece. Not to be missed, both for the beauty of the music and for the high quality level of the engraving. The recording was made on DVD using a Fostex DV-40 DVD which uses a sampling of 176.4 kHz via the dCS 974 D/D converter, recorder with microphones M*A Recoridings original DC powered line with Bruel and Kjaer mm 0042 capsule, designed by J.Yonetani, which uses a sampling of 176.4 kHz, monitored on Stax Lambda Signature Pro Earspeakers with balanced driver unit.
