The MINC label (an acronym for the company's name, "Music Incorporated") was launched in January 1980 by Hilton Rosenthal and became one of the largest independent record companies in South Africa. Based in Johannesburg, their most successful act by far was Juluka, while other domestic artists in their repertoire included City Limits, Dave Hewitt, Andy Martin, and Tessa Ziegler. The label also had a large catalogue of ethnic local acts including Jerusalema E Ncha and Tau Ea Linare, and it licensed several international acts like The Klaxons and David Christie. Distribution was handled by EMI S.A. to whom the label was sold in late 1985 before Mr. Rosenthal moved to Los Angeles.
