Universal Music Special Markets is a brand and company division operating under the wing of Universal Music Enterprises in the US. Successor to Polygram Special Markets and MCA Special Markets & Products. UMSM works with other operating groups in the Universal Music Group and is involved in both licensing their catalogues to third parties and issuing back catalogue in its own right. It creates custom music premiums, incentives, retail compilations, mail order collections and oversees reissues of AudioFile product. UMSM works with the catalogues of Def Jam Recordings, Geffen Records, Hip-O Select, Interscope Records, Island Records, Lost Highway, MCA Nashville, Mercury Nashville, Motown, Verve Records and Music Matters Ltd. and others in the UMG Group. UMSM's label logo often appears on releases, either on the product next to other logos, or on its own. It should be entered as a label when its logo appears. Not to be confused with Universal Music Strategic Marketing when abbreviated as UMSM.
