Metal label from Lille, France GREAT DANE RECORDS is a French non-profit death metal label created in 2005 by two extreme metal fans: Raphael, a record store owner, and Geoff, a former guitarist for the band DISGUST. Both from Northern France, their first signings were regional, with bands such as DISGUST, SCARVENGER, WILD KARNIVOR, VAKARM, NIRNAETH, and DYLATH-LEEN. The fledgling label quickly gained a small following and, thanks to national distribution via SEASON OF MIST, began to attract bands from all over France, including CARCARIASS, RED DEAD, RECUEIL MORBIDE, NO RETURN, VOORHEES, NIHILISM, HEKSEN, WARKUNT, IN PURULENCE, POST-MORTEM, CATALYST, and ARMAGEDDON DEATH SQUAD. GREAT DANE needed international distributors to help it expand. CODE7 and MVD enable the label to establish a presence in Europe, the United States, and Canada, respectively. This is followed by the signing of several foreign acts, including the Canadian band DEEPLY CONFUSED, the Belgian band SKINWEAVER, the Swiss band CALCINED, the Norwegian band BEFOULED, and the Finnish bands REFUSAL and ASSATUR.
