Jewel Records (4)

1960s-2000s label from Cincinnati, Ohio, operated by Rusty York. Also appears as "Jewel" only, "Jewel Recording Company (2)" or "Ju*el Records". Jewel started out with a 100 series, a 400 series, and a 600 series, all of which were concentrated around Cincinnati’s country and country gospel musicians, and almost all the records were cut by a rotating group of singers and pickers, including Rusty. In 1965, the first real custom records were released on the 900 series. Records in this series were issued on Jewel, Teen, Log Cabin, and a couple one-off labels. The last known record in this series is #930. From 1966 until mid-1969, the 700 series started a release by Rusty, a remake of his famous remake "Sugaree." The 700 series skips ahead to 731, which seems to continue from 930 (30 -> 31). A couple numbers are reused – one of which has the notation of ‘Gospel series’. The other duplicate numbers seem to be along those lines, although many of the main series were also gospel records. This series ends at 799 in February 1969.
