Österreichische Grammophon-Gesellschaft m.b.H.

Founded in 1901 as a sales office for Deutsche Grammophon-Aktiengesellschaft covering Austria-Hungary, the Balkans and the Ottoman Empire. The first director was Ludwig Wild (1901-1905), followed by John Hartkopp (1905-1906) and Karl Friedrich Vogel (1906-1907). In 1907, it was closed in favour of C. Janauschek & Cie, but reopened on 1 July 1908 with Leo Bernard Cohn (also director of Deutsche Grammophon-Aktiengesellschaft) and Emanuel Winkler as directors and S. Neufeld as managing director. The closure did not affect its recording studio. The factory was opened in 1909 by Joseph Berliner as a manufacturing-branch of Deutsche Grammophon-Aktiengesellschaft in Aussig an der Elbe, Austria-Hungary in response to the steep import duties in the monarchy. Production began in April 1910 and closed when the First World War started in 1914. It had an annual capacity of 500,000 records. After WW1 it was bought by The Gramophone Co. Ltd..
