Defunct British recording and mastering studio, located in Savile Row, London, UK. The studio was housed in the basement of The Beatles' Apple Records headquarters, which was purchased in 1968. Originally designed by Alex Mardas of Apple Electronics, the studio proved to be defective and The Beatles had to borrow equipment from EMI for the recording of 24212. It was subsequently redesigned by EMI engineer Geoff Emerick, who became the studio manager. The studio reopened on 30 September 1971, now including its own natural echo chamber, a wide range of recording, cutting and mastering facilities, and could turn out mono, stereo and quadrophonic master tapes and discs. The studio ceased operations on 16 May 1975. While the studio was being rebuilt, the cutting room was situated at Apple Electronics in Boston Place. Engineers known to have worked here: Phil McDonald, Piers Plaskitt, John Smith (39), George Peckham (AKA Porky (5)), Malcolm Davies. Many of whom came over from EMI.
