US recording/mastering & vinyl-cutting studios of record company Capitol Records; closed January 2021. Only use this profile for releases around October 1973 or after that also have the MASTERED BY CAPITOL stamp. For lacquer cutting credits based on lathe suffixes (see list below) before or around October 1973 WITHOUT the MASTERED BY CAPITOL stamp OR, for credits specifically stating "Capitol Studios", "Capitol Recording Studios" or "Capitol Records Studios" please use Capitol Studios. If the credit is specifically for the New York studios, use Capitol Studios, New York City. Capitol Mastering Use: MASTERED BY CAPITOL stamp, use LCCN credit "Mastered At" Capitol Mastering. MASTERED BY CAPITOL stamp AND it has one of the lathe letters (P / T, W / X, or R) in the matrix suffix, use LCCN credit "Mastered At" Capitol Studios, New York City. See example below: Piano Concerto No. 3 In C Minor, Op. 37 The runouts are "S-1-60019-W-4 MASTERED BY CAPITOL." The "W-4" at the end signifies that the lacquers were cut by the stereo Scully lathe in New York. So, the LCCN credit would be Mastered At Capitol Studios - New York City. See the list below for the different lathe suffixes used with their respective years in use. Capitol Studios (and beginning around October 1973 - Capitol Mastering) had Scully and Neumann lathes. The used lathes are indicated in the matrix by the letter following the catalog number (followed by a number indicating the cut number), e.g. A3, F-9, G-22, J17, P-4, R1, W5, X5. A / B: Scully stereo lathe in Hollywood, 1967-1974. F / G: Scully mono lathe in Hollywood, 1967-1969. H / J: Scully lathe in Hollywood, 1969-1983. P / T: Scully lathe in New York, 1967-1971.
