Miller International Company

US record company; also listed as: Miller International Co. Miller International Company was the successor to Essex Records (3). It was launched in the early Fifties by David L. Miller and George Phillips, his former his Essex Records office manager. The chronology of the many labels created by Miller International is unknown, but Trans-World, which replaced Essex Records (3) and reissued its repertoire, was among the first. It only lasted until 1958 and was replaced with Somerset, created by suggestion of distributor Jimmy Warren for mono releases. Stereo-Fidelity was Somerset's sister label for stereo releases; both issues had the same cover art and catalog numbers. The company owned their own pressing plant in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania. A German subsidiary, Miller International Schallplatten GmbH was established in 1961, and outlasted Miller's US operations by at least a decade. Miller's greatest claim to fame was selling large amounts of cheaply priced albums, with Somerset claiming to have manufactured the first stereo budget albums. In 1965 David Miller sold controlling interest in the Miller International Company to Al Sherman.
