Company started in late 1959 by Alan Bubis and his brother Reynold. According to an interview with someone who worked there, the company was also co-owned by Bill Beasly. Record Service was acquired in 1966 by James Gann and others (among those, Leonard Chess) and became Mid-South Record Pressing Company. The company's goal was to "buy, sell and deal in wholesale and retail, phonograph records, phonograph machines and sheet music." They may have had a goal of being a label as well. They are listed on many releases as a record company. But it appears their pressing operation is what was attractive to a future buyer. When they were bought out by Mid-South, the pressing operation was moved about a 10 minute drive away to 48th Ave N & Tennessee Ave. Their Nashville Matrix account number was 15. If a "15" is seen in the runout, it signifies that the metalwork/plating was processed by Nashville Matrix and it also serves as a helpful tip-off that the vinyl was pressed by Record Service Co. Inc. The pressing ring size is 28.5mm - the original presses that were eventually bought by Mid-South and then GRT (which also share these dimensions).
