Svenska Missionsförbundet

'Svenska Missionsförbundet' (the Swedish Mission Covenant) was a Swedish neo-evangelical, Protestant denomination founded in 1878, and it was named so until 2003 when its name was changed to 'Svenska Missionskyrkan' (the Mission Covenant Church of Sweden). On June 3, 2011, the Church Conference of the Mission Covenant Church of Sweden made the decision to recommend its congregations to form a new church. The following day, a founders' meeting with representatives from the Mission Covenant Church of Sweden, 'Svenska Baptistsamfundet' (the Baptist Union of Sweden) and 'Metodistkyrkan i Sverige' (the United Methodist Church in Sweden) made the decision to merge and form a new denomination. The new church was initially called 'Gemensam Framtid' (Joint Future Church) until the new name Equmeniakyrkan was adopted by the general assembly in May 2013.
