Gilmore's Chez Paree was a jazz club in Kansas City's historic 18th & Vine jazz district owned and operated by Quincy Jordan Gilmore and Alberta Gilmore. Quincy was the P.R. man for the Kansas City Monarchs and other early Negro League Baseball Teams. The doors at 1822 Vine first opened in 1923 as The Eblon Theater, an auditorium showing silent films, accented with velour drapes. In 1933, it was converted to a nightclub called The Cherry Blossom where Count Basie and His Cherry Blossom Orchestra became the house band. The building was later renovated to the Chez Paree. By 1944, it was home to Jay McShann and singer Walter Brown. In 1984, a fire destroyed the building and all that stands is a faux door front.
