Born in the spring of 1996 as an answer to the lack of dark or experimental electronics within the techno scenes of New York and Detroit. Originally run by Hecate & DJ Kareem, the duo went separate ways after Zhark 00002. Hecate formed Zhark International (first titled Zhark London), covering broken and caustic beats and tortured ambience, while Kareem formed Zhark Recordings Berlin, churning out more 4/4 kick drum attacks.
Zhark International is run from wherever Hecate resides. She also briefly ran a label dedicated to electronic music made by women, but Homewrecker Foundation was stopped after a lack of activity.
