The Opéra de Monte-Carlo, also known as Salle Garnier and sometimes credited as "Palais Garnier, Monte Carlo," is a Monegasque concert hall and opera house inaugurated in January 1879 and based within Monte Carlo Casino in Monaco. Designed by renowned French architect Charles Garnier (1825—1898), who also worked on Palais Garnier in Paris, the 524-seat hall shared similarities in ornate style; many of the same painters and artists worked on lavish frescos and interior decorations. The construction took only 8½ months, an exceptional pace even with today's construction technologies. In 1898, Henri Schmit (1851—1904) remodeled Salle Garnier to expand the stage and make it more suitable for opera.
