EMI Recorded Music was one of the two initial EMI Group companies, which were formed after the demerger of Thorn Emi in August 1996. The conglomerate was headed from 1996 to 2007 by EMI Group Plc and from October 2007 by its successor EMI Group Ltd.. EMI Group Plc consisted initially of three companies: - HMV, the record retailer - The publishing house EMI Music Publishing - EMI Recorded Music (this profile) EMI Recorded Music started in the following fields of business: - Signing and developing recording artists - Marketing and promoting recording artists - Distributing their recorded music The company had a strictly geographical structure, divided in regions and subdivided in local country organizations. The most local organizations had a cascade of multiple divisions below them. On November 12, 2011, the company was sold to Universal Music Group.
