Independent vinyl pressing plant, located in London, UK. MVS stands for Music and Video Services. Incorporated in August 1978 as Pierkarn Ltd. (as a music broker) by Nicholas Charles Flower, Jeffrey Trendell and engineer Ronald William Havell. In January 1981 (incorporated in February 1981), renamed to MVS (Record Pressing) Ltd., after taking over the premises and presses from Samea Records (Pressing) Limited (one Lened 7" double cavity automatic press, three Toolex Alpha AD 1202 12" automatic presses, a boiler, two oil tanks and a Ford Transit). By means of a capital increase in 1981, Factory Records (among others) were granted a £10.000 shares stake in the manufacturer and became one of the core clients. The capital increase also allowed MVS to buy another two Lened 7" automatic presses and Europa Film plating equipment. Went into voluntary creditor's winding up in November 1984, following the collapse of Ronco Teleproducts, Inc. and two other major customers. Finally dissolved in September 1991. Can usually be identified by its etched runout inscriptions MVS or MVSS (occasionally also by etched stamper IDs, e.g. S-12 or S-3, without MVS - not to be confused with WEA West Drayton IDs though). 12" pressing rings are either 32,5 mm with flat labels (as seen here) or 32 + 63 mm with dipped labels (as seen here). It happened that an MVS LP or 12" batch has both ring configurations, this counts as manufacturing variant. 7" pressing rings have a prominent depression around the central ring (as seen here). Also existing was MVS (Cassette Duplication) Ltd., incorporated in February 1983, after taking over Echoshire Ltd., to duplicate videos.
