A company founded by Milton Gelfand on April 7, 1947 in The Bronx, New York and operated until the 1990s. It began as self-described "producers of record plates and recording plating equipment" and throughout the 1960s, 1970s, and into the 1980s, the primary service offering of its Bronx facility was the normal delivery of the master, mother, and stamper from an acetate (lacquer) master within 24 hours. In addition, it offered equipment fabrication services to manufacturers and acquired smaller companies such as Dulcet Tone Corporation in 1967, while continuing to develop its technologies. As a result, it opened a custom CD and laser-disk manufacturing plant in Hempstead, New York on April 1, 1986. The Bronx facility closed in 1988, after which the company focused entirely on optical discs. Vinyl-format releases it plated can be identified by "AudioMatrix" machine-stamped in the runout grooves. Often, this stamp is partial or extremely faint and can only be identified with extreme magnification. Work done by Audio Matrix may also have a date in the runout (EX: 6-29-69 for June 29, 1969) - this is not a release date and should not be used as identifier alone. When the stamp appears in the runout, please use the "Plated At" credit. Known to have provided metal parts for pressing to; Alco Research And Engineering, Co. Columbia Records Pressing Plant, Pitman Abbey Record Manufacturing Co., Inc. Capitol Records Pressing Plant, Los Angeles All Disc Records, Inc. (by 1967) Name Variations: "Audio Matrix Inc." "AudioMatrix" "AudioMatrix Inc." "AudioMatrix, Inc."
