In North America, Virgin and its associated labels were distributed by Atlantic/WEA until that date, after which they moved to Capitol. Any EMI catalogue numbering dates to after that.
Many releases issued by Virgin branches in the UK, Europe and other countries mention Virgin Records America Inc. in the copyright notice. This means that the artist was signed to Virgin through the American branch, so the copyright to their recordings resides there. It does not mean the item is a US release.
