Gramophone Record

Sister label of Gramophone Concert Record and Gramophone Monarch Record launched in 1902 for 7" issues by The Gramophone And Typewriter Ltd. in the pre-war period. Relaunched in the early 1920s as Deutsche Grammophon-Aktiengesellschaft's export label, featuring an altered version of the "Nipper" painting with the dog removed to prevent trademark infringement, as the company was no longer a subsidiary of The Gramophone Co. Ltd. These issues were also referred to as "Musica" records from the "Musica G. D." trademark featured on the labels and packaging, since "Gramophone" had already become a generic term. The label ran until at least 1926 and was superseded by Polydor, also serving export markets. On German releases the catalogue (order) number is referred to as "Bestell No.", usually with the same the number on both sides of the record. The face numbers on the labels are called "Katalog No." and are different on both sides of the record. The "Bestell No." system was introduced in May 1912. If the "Bestell No." repeats on both sides, please list it as the only catalog number. Otherwise, please list both face numbers separately as catalog numbers.
