Pigbag was a British post-punk band active from 1980 to 1983, formed in Cheltenham by Chris Hamlin with a rotating lineup of musicians. Their 1981 instrumental single “Papa’s Got a Brand New Pigbag” became an underground dance hit and later reached No. 3 in the UK charts, helping drive the success of their debut album Dr. Heckle & Mr Jive. Despite lineup changes, touring, and a follow-up album (Lend an Ear), internal tensions and poor reception to their new direction led to their breakup in 1983.
