Formed by Bill Smith and Ron Cruikshank. Originally named The Corrie Voices, with Andy Turner joining them, on the banjo. Andy left and after a while Roy Williamson and Paddie Bell joined. When Ron Cruikshank fell ill before their performance at the Edinburgh Festival Roy suggested Ronnie Browne fill in.
