Sammy Massamba

Guitarist, songwriter, arranger, pianist and performer born in Brazzaville, Congo. He was one of the first artists to launch afro-reggae in Congo Brazzaville, and was also the founder of the Star Production label and the Studio des Stars in Paris, France. In 1965, he was a member of the vocal group Les Cheveux Crépus, initiated by Jacques Loubélo. In the 1970s in Paris, France, Sammy Massamba collaborated with several artists in studio or on disc. In 1978, he set up a trio with Tanawa (voice) and Pierre Moutouari, with whom he recorded at the Barclay studios in Paris. With Samba Ngo (guitar, voice) and Tanawa (voice), Sammy Massamba forms an Afro-folk trio.
