Simon Dawes was a rock band originally from Malibu, California that began as a 4 piece: Taylor Goldsmith, Blake Mills, Damon Webb and Alex Orbison. Recorded 5 song demo, Stories from Hollywood, after just under a year of playing, in 2003. Frequented the West LA/Hollywood/Malibu circuit before releasing Webb and Orbison in the Spring of 2004. At that time, Mills and Goldsmith began recording under the roof of good friend Stuart Johnson, who lent his drumming services on "Behind the Bleechers" and "Cheap Rip Off". Mills and Goldsmith wrote, performed, and produced (with executive production by Johnson, Tony Berg and Dave Cooley). After playing with Grant Powell on bass and Dylan Grombacher on drums, the line up stabiized with Stuart Johnson on drums and Wylie Gelber on bass. Eventually Griffith Goldsmith, Taylor's brother, replaced Stuart Johnson. Around 2009 Blake Mills left the band and Simon Dawes became Dawes.
