Ioan Morris

Ioan Morris is a Welsh composer, multi-instrumentalist, writer, and visual artist based in the Vale of Glamorgan, Wales. He is best known for his work as a media composer for television, film, and audio drama. Since the late 2010s, Morris has been a regular composer for Big Finish Productions, scoring numerous official audio dramas within the Doctor Who expanded universe, including titles for The War Master, Gallifrey, The Doctor Chronicles, and the multi-platform crossover Time Lord Victorious. His soundtrack work frequently blends dark ambient soundscapes, experimental synthesizers, and orchestral elements. In April 2019, Morris released The Magician's Nephew on the Scottish cassette label Bibliotapes (catalog number Bib001). Conceived as a demo tape for a hypothetical, unproduced mid-1980s animated adaptation of C.S. Lewis's novel, the instrumental album features electronic and modern classical arrangements heavily influenced by the BBC Radiophonic Workshop's synthesizer palette and Joe Hisaishi's Japanese anime image albums (such as Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind and Laputa: Castle in the Sky). In 2021, he teamed up with London-based ambient artist Goodparley (Oliver Richards) for the collaborative full-length album Surroundings, physically issued on CD by the independent label Subexotic Records. In addition to his musical output, Morris operates within the UK animation and comics industries. He co-wrote, scored, and served as concept designer for the animated short film Spectre of the Bear (2023)—produced in partnership with BBC Wales, Ffilm Cymru Wales, and the BFI Network—and is the creator of the independent graphic novel series Biggol. He is also the co-founder of the Cardiff Comics Carnival.
