Critically acclaimed industrial/grind band from Southend, Essex (UK), formed by David "Auntie" Godbald and Andy Whiting, previously of the punk band The Sinyx. Godbald was on guitars/vocals and Whiting was on bass, and the two played with a rotating cast of musicians for roughly two years. In early 1988, Sonic Violence stabilized when Murray Blake was added into the band as a second bassist and additional vocalist, and Elmer Barrett joined on drums as well. After a string of one-off singles and random live shows, the band released their debut album in 1990, Jagd. Keyboardist Bill was added into the lineup that same year, but by 1991, Godbald had left the band. Initially, Blake took over as guitarist while Elmer took over as vocalist. As a result, Paul Taylor joined as second bassist and Peri joined as second drummer. In 1992, Blake departed from the band, but the remaining members handled guitar duties instead of hiring a replacement. The lineup of Whiting (bass), Barrett (drums/vocals), Bill (keyboards), Peri (drums), and Taylor (bass) released the album Transfixion in 1992. In 1994, Whiting left the band, and the lineup stayed as a quartet. Although the band had demoed a handful of songs, a third album never emerged, and they went into a hiatus by 1995. Various one-off reunions occurred afterwards, albeit without any tours or albums.
