American lyricist and composer. Lyricist of the famous music hall song "Goodbye, Dolly Gray," written with Paul Barnes (6). Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania July 6, 1876. Died in Manhattan, New York January 20, 1930. While entertaining soldiers at Camp Black, during the Spanish-American War, Cobb met lyricist Gus Edwards, and they formed "Words and Music" and "Cobb & Edwards Songsmiths", a partnership that lasted for many years. Cobb was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970.
