“Dreaming isn’t enough, you have to have attitude,” that’s the motto defined by the rapper from Brasília, Paulo Rogério Gomes de Oliveira, known as “Rei” (King). born July, 15, 1975 is a Composer, Producer and Founder of Cirurgia Moral. Rei started his career at 12 and, even without family support, always followed his dream. Rap ​​has been his only occupation since he was 17, and since 1992, the Brasília native has been performing paid shows. “I started as a salesman in a rap store, then I became the manager of the same store, which became the biggest independent rap label in Brazil, ‘Discovery’”. Rei also owned a store and was a street vendor selling rap merchandise. Initially, he was part of the group “Cirurgia Moral” with rappers Kalako, Otílio, Zalla, DJs China, and DJ "W" and was also part of the group L.A.T.R.O. with rapper DuckJay. “It was common to see MCs, graffiti artists, or breakdancers and disco dancers, and I was immediately fascinated by the American sound of the time, like Kurtis Blow and The Boogie Boys. After hearing it in Portuguese, I thought it was cool and started composing.” Rei also taught at an NGO in Cidade Estrutural, where he taught rhymes and the origins of rap. Today, in addition to being a singer and songwriter, he produces his own songs and those of other rappers from the Federal District. His most requested hit is "Farofino" at his performances. As one of the best-known rap artists in the region, he argues that work done with love and seriousness always brings benefits, and recognition is one of them. Regarding his own studio, which has been operating for a year and a half, he reveals: "There comes a point in an artist's life when they want to get their hands dirty, and that's what I did with the experiences of the best producers in Brazil in the rap scene, such as DJ Raffa, Leandronik, DJ Jamaika, and Duck Jay. I thank everyone who helped me, because I learned a lot from them." The rapper also says that inspiration comes from countless situations and that music is made from the moment one lives in.
