Symphonic conductor, born on 4 May 1883 in Brailov, Russian Empire (today part of Ukraine), died on 23 June 1961 in Sydney, Australia. Born to a Russian mother and an Ukrainian father, and educated in Russian schools, completing that education at the Conservatory in St. Petersburg, where he later taught when he was Musical Director of the Leningrad Philharmonic. At the time of his death in 1961 he was Musical Director of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.
