English band from Colchester in Essex, UK, developed out of the 1963 pub band Dane Stephens & The Deep Beats. They changed their name upon a Decca recording deal in 1964. Whilst on the local venue rhythm & blues circuit with Keith Wymer's Nick & The Nomads, members of both bands merged to become The Fairies on Stephens' [aka Dougie Orde] departure. (He joined the Cops n' Robbers as Dane Stephens.)
Members: Nick Wymer (vocals); Mick Weaver (lead guitar); John Acutt (rhythm guitar); John "Freddy" Gandy (bass); John "Twink" Alder: (drums). The latter became famous as Twink. Gandy became a member of Bluesology. Weaver was the force behind Wynder K. Frog, played with Traffic, and became a popular session musician.
