James McLaughlin is a recording and mix engineer, composer, and producer based in Virginia, USA. A dual citizen of the U.S. and Ireland, McLaughlin’s musical background blends transatlantic roots with deep experience in American music traditions. He is the founder of Mountainside Studio, a custom-built hybrid recording facility designed by a world-class acoustic architect. Over his 25+ year career, he has worked on projects for both major labels and independent artists, as well as audiobooks for top publishers featuring celebrity narrators and NYT bestsellers. His engineering credits span Americana, pop, indie, jazz, acoustic, and singer-songwriter genres. A drummer by training and a bandleader by nature, McLaughlin brings a musical, collaborative approach to every project.
