American actor and songwriter. Worked with Billy Preston. Born September 20, 1931 in New Jersey, USA. Died April 27, 1991 in Los Angeles, California, USA. Ackerman was known for his acting in movies such as Shadows (1958), Faces (1968) and Tell Me in the Sunlight (1965). Acted and wrote some of the music and lyrics for the songs in the Faces movie. He formed a partnership with actor John Cassavetes, scoring for his independent films as well as acting in some of them. Ackerman also wrote songs for “The Ziegfeld Follies” on Broadway. Formed a songwriting collaboration with Preston, having 10 songs recorded by Preston on Motown and A&M labels. Charted as a songwriter with "Lasting Love" by Sal Mineo, which hit #25 in 1957 (co-written with Hunt Stevens). ASCAP IPI #55219292 (61 songs).
