Mike Westcott was a Rhodesian musician from Salisbury, Rhodesia who garnered significant popularity in the nation during the late 70's with songs such as "It's a Long Way To Mukumbura" and "I'm Just A Shumba Drinker", all recorded with fellow Rhodesian band Leprechaun. He attended Churchill Boys High in Salisbury from 1957-1961 and studied at The Teacher's College at Bulawayo. Westcott was the singer of a band called The Phantoms from 1961-62, which two members of this band would later become members of rock band The Shake Spears. His personal success would come years later with Teal Records and the release of several singles, including the famous "It's A Long Way to Mukumbura", regarded as one of the most well known Rhodesian songs ever and he gathered significant airplay. When Rhodesia fell apart in the 70's and 80's and became Zimbabwe, Westcott moved to Cape Town, South Africa. He was last known to be working for a company called Bamic Enterprises, marketing and presenting innovative technologies for supermarkets.
