Flindt came to Clinton, Iowa in 1912. He had a band Emil Flindt's Varsity Band (1920's-40's) that operated out of Davenport, Iowa. Members included Wayne King (saxophone), Morris (Sugar) McVey, Weldon Nelson and Jimmie Ray (banjo). He was a musician at the Family Theatre, directed the Clinton Citizens' Band and his own orchestra, managed Flindt's Song Shop, and became department manager of Hoffman Music Co. on 5th Avenue.
