First came to attention in the UK as a stand-up comedian and impressionist. Worked with The Boulting Brothers from the mid-1950s, and began to gain a reputation portraying upper class bounder types. Worked in the United States in the next decade, including a role in It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963), but was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 1971 which limited his later activities.
