Norwegian composer, conductor, organist, pianist and musical theorist. Born May 5th, 1794 in Neunkirchen, Germany. Died November 11th, 1873 in Christiania, Norway. After settling in Christiania later in his life, he became the leader of "Det philharmoniske Selskab", an early precursor to Oslo Filharmoniske Orkester. Here he tutored, among others, Halfdan Kjerulf and Johan Svendsen.
