American songwriter, singer and pianist, born 2 July 1894 in Washington, D.C., USA. He was the son of Professor John Turner Layton Sr, a music teacher and composer. He also formed a songwriting partnership with Henry Creamer. Died in a North London Nursing Home on the 6th of February 1978, at the age of 83.
