The band was formed by Andreas Jismark in April 1990 in Tranes, Sweden. However, the only thing that united the band at that time was its name and Andreas Jismark himself. In 1991, Sara Gunnarsson joined the band as a backing vocalist, but within a year she became the lead singer. The band was still in its infancy, recording demos and performing in their hometown and surrounding areas. In 1992, the first lineup of the band was formed: Andreas Jismark - guitar and keyboards, Sara Gunnarsson - vocals, Jens Hellqvist - guitar and electronics, Jesper Eng - bass guitar 1993. The April Tears spent most of their time recording what they thought would be their debut album. Their efforts resulted in the EP Cellarbird. One of the tracks, “Searching for the Sun,” was later released as a bonus track on the 1996 single “Sing Lee.” Jesper Eng left the band in 1994 to focus on his studies. By the end of that year, Fredrik Kall (drums) and Christian Berg (bass guitar) had joined the band. The band's debut album, Strange Paradise, was released in 1995. After a short tour, Jens and Fredrik left the band. In November, a new drummer, Torbjörn Söderman, joined the band. Soon after, Jimmy Monell, who had previously worked with the band, also joined. In January 1996, the first track from the album Strange Paradise, “Sing Lee,” was released as a single. In February and March, the band began recording their second album, Eyes Cold Kisses. The album was supposed to be released in 1996, but the band decided to change labels. Jimmy Monell joined the band as a permanent member in 1997. The April Tears recorded new demos. But then difficulties arose, and the band suspended work. In 1999, The April Tears signed a contract with Telstar Records and began recording a new album. By the end of 2000, the second album was completely recorded. In October, the first single, “Model, Actress, Whatever,” was released. 2000 In 2001, two more singles were released: “Seventeen” and “Hardcoming.” But the album was still delayed. Finally, in January 2002, their second album, “Consume Desire,” was released. In the summer, Christian Bergh left the band and a new bassist, Mattias Svensson, joined.
