American Southern Gospel singer. Born August 4, 1919, in Choctaw County, Mississippi. Died February 3, 2002. Father of Jimmy Blackwood.
James Blackwood was one of the founding members of the legendary Southern Gospel group The Blackwood Brothers Quartet. He was the youngest of the brothers. He sang in the quartet from it’s beginning in 1934 until he joined The Masters V in 1981. He was an original member of the Masters V quartet and was the leader of the James Blackwood Quartet.
Blackwood was a co-founder of the Gospel Music Association and the National Quartet Convention.
