Mikhail Kostyushkin (born April 2, 1946 in Babushkin, Buryatia) - Soviet and Russian saxophonist, composer, led jazz ensembles, is one of the brightest and most temperamental performers of the post-mainstream in St. Petersburg. In 1967 he graduated from the Music College at the Leningrad Conservatory, clarinet class. In 1967-69 he worked in the Odessa Youth Orchestra (at the invitation of David Goloshchekin), then he played on cruise ships for three years, and after returning to Leningrad, he entered the David Goloshchekin Jazz Music Ensemble = Джаз-ансамбль Давида Голощекина. In 1975-80 he was a leading soloist in the Jazz Orchestra of Joseph Weinstein. Since 1980 he taught at the pop-jazz department of the Music College named after I. Mussorgsky, played in the "Diplomant" orchestra and collected various jazz groups for performances at festivals. In 1984, together with pianist Pyotr Kornev = Петр Корнев, he organized the Ars-Nova quartet = Джаз-квартет «Ars Nova», and at the same time performed at domestic and foreign festivals with Sergei Kuryokhin's Pop Mechanics. In 2003 he entered the ensemble of pianist and composer Oleg Belov, and also played author's programs in a trio (Vladimir Kudryavtsev = Владимир Кудрявцев or Grigory Voskoboinik - double bass, Vladimir Tunik = Владимир Туник - drums).
