Chilean musician (although born in Ecuador on June 5, 1942), one of the founders of "Inti-Illimani" (1967-1997). Singer and quena and percussion player. He died May 1st, 2018 in Santiago at the age of 75. He came to Chile in 1962, studying in the State Technical University. He started his musical career with the group as a teenager in 1967, becoming a well-known tenor singer, guitarist and percussionist. In 1973, he and the other members in the band got exiled in Italy due to the Pinochet dictatorship, returning together in 1988. Among his most known performances are "Dolencias (Sorrows)", "Canto a los caídos (A Song For The Fallen)", "El arado", "Rin del angelito (Little Angel's Song)", "Creemos el hombre nuevo (Let's Create The New Man)", "La patria prisionera (The Prisoner Homeland)" and "La petenera". After almost 30 years, Berrú left the group and started a solo career, founding another band, "Los Insobornables", alongside his two eldest sons, Cristóbal and Tocori. Berrú passed away on May 1, 2018, at the age of 75, as a result of a cancer.
